FAD Powder (Flavin adenine dinucleotide, FAD) is a redox cofactor (electron carrier) of flavin protein. These flavin proteins include succinate dehydrogenase (complex), α-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase, apoptosis-inducing factor 2 (AIF-M2, AMID), folate/FAD-dependent tRNA methyltransferase, and N-hydroxylated flavoprotein monooxygenase. FAD is also one of the components of the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex. It participates in the synthesis of nitric oxide. In vitro, FAD (0.0125-0.05% solution) reduces UV-B-induced death of human corneal epithelial cells.
Flavin adenine is the biologically active form of riboflavin. Flavin is a derivative of 7,8-dimethylisopyrazine, which is mainly divided into riboflavin (RF), flavin adenine mononucleotide (FMN), and flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD) according to the different groups connected at the N(10) position on the isopyrazine ring. RF is synthesized by microorganisms and higher plants, which can only be obtained by animals from food. It is phosphorylated into FMN and FAD in vivo and participates in important metabolic activities.
